What warranty comes with an exoskeleton?

The answer in detail

Two warranties can apply to an exoskeleton. The first is the legal guarantee of conformity: according to Service-Public.fr, it is mandatory, lasts 2 years for a new item from delivery, and the professional seller is liable for it. During those 24 months, a defect is presumed to have existed at delivery: the seller must prove otherwise.

The second is the commercial warranty, which is optional and set by the seller or manufacturer. It adds to the legal guarantee without replacing it. In our catalog, its length ranges from 12 months to 2 years depending on the brand.

What makes the warranty vary

Here is the commercial warranty shown on our product pages. It comes from the manufacturers and can change: check it with the seller before buying.

BrandWarranty shown
Ski-Mojo24 months, extendable to 48 months after registration
Hypershell24 months
Hapo2 years (springs and textile)
Dnsys1 year
Stoko12 months, with a free one-month trial
Imbrace1 year, lifetime extension available as an option

For VIGX, our product page does not mention a warranty: ask the seller. Beyond the length, look at what is covered: structure, electronics, battery, wear parts. For example, the Ski-Mojo FAQ states that wear parts are not covered unless they show abnormal wear. The global Hypershell page for the Ultra X, meanwhile, states 12 months: the length can vary by country and seller.

Extra costs and pitfalls

The purchase price is not everything: a warranty can be costly to use if the product comes from far away.

  • Seller outside the European Union: if you buy directly from a brand based outside Europe, return and repair conditions may differ. Read the seller's conditions before ordering.
  • Return costs: sending a product back abroad can be expensive. Ask who pays.
  • Paid extensions: some extensions, such as Imbrace's lifetime option, are optional and paid. Compare their cost with that of a repair.
  • Wear parts: straps, sleeves, connectors or batteries are often treated separately.

How to check and use your warranty

Keep the invoice and note the delivery date. If there is a defect, go to your seller first: it is the seller who answers for the legal guarantee. Describe the problem in writing, with photos. According to Service-Public.fr, you choose between repair and replacement, and if neither is possible, you can ask for a price reduction or a refund.

  • Register the product if the manufacturer asks, as Ski-Mojo does to go from 24 to 48 months.
  • Keep the invoice and the original packaging.
  • Write to the seller before contacting the manufacturer.

Key takeaways

In France, the professional seller owes you 2 years of legal guarantee on a new exoskeleton, whatever the manufacturer's warranty. Keep the invoice, register the product if the manufacturer asks, and write to the seller first if there is a problem. Then compare the commercial warranties, from 12 months to 2 years in our catalog, and read what they cover.
